How does this work?

Each week after American Idol is broadcast, check in here at PredictIdol.com for our reviews and predictions. From the top 24 all the way to the finale, we will predict who is eliminated each week. We always write our reviews and comments before we read anything on the Internet or elsewhere about the show so as to give our true immediate impressions, uncolored by outside opinions.

The Prognosticats, Big Z and Little Z, also make their “predictions.” This usually involves little scraps of paper and lots of coaxing. And tuna. The experiment here is whether cats, choosing contestants at random, can be more successful at predicting the outcome of American Idol better than we humans can.

Watch the sidebar each week for the overall standings for Burke, Bunny, and the Cats, and check the individual posts for more details on who we were right or wrong about. Since this is PredictIdol.com, the main tally will keep track of how we predicted what would actually happen on Idol. But we’ll also make note of how we did when predicting those we think should have gone home. Bunny’s Bombs, Burke’s Turkeys, and the Prognosticats’ Hairballs will reflect those scores.

In the early audition rounds we each chose two contestants from each city who we thought had the most potential for success on the show. We are quite aware that any Idol predictions we made during initial rounds were based on very limited information. Since not all the successful entrants are even named in the early auditions, we can only work with those who are. Still, I bask in the eternal glow of rightness because back in Season 4, after seeing only the first round of auditions, I, Bunny, predicted Carrie Underwood would win. That’s right. Don’t worry, I won’t let you forget it.
